Trinity Clinical Apps
TrinityClinical Apps was founded by a group of physicians and computer specialists working in Trinity College Dublin with an enthusiasm for improving the care of sick people using modern technologies. The development of smart phones has provided an enormous opportunity for delivering comrehansive and complex clinical information into clinicians hands and the patients bedside. There are now a large number of medical applications available but we have found problems with their use in daily practice. Many are too generic, delivering dozens of formulae and scales many of which are outdated or rarely used in the real world. Others present scales with no advice as to how or in what circumstances they should be used. Our aim is to produce a range of tools that are designed by senior medical specialists. In developing these tools we ask our colleagues 'what pieces of information or scales would you want your own team to have when encountering a patient for the first time?' We then develop these into an application. We present the tools as simply and crisply as possible as we feel that in an emergency situation an unnecessarily fussy presentation may be both distracting and make the tool harder to use. Our first App is a toolkit for physicians caring for acute stroke.
