How do I know if the pain bad enough to need pain management?

Other people asked questions on various topics, and are still
waiting for answer. Would be great if you can take a sec and
answer them

How do I know if the pain bad enough to need pain management?I too have back pain and have been referred to a pain management clinic, but after reading some of the questions and responses here, I'm wondering if my pain is as bad as I think. The causes for my back pain don't seem near as serious as some of the others I've been reading about. I have DDD, two bulging discs, one annular tear, and a touch of arthritis. All of this was diagnosed by my family doc and an orthopedic doc using x-rays and an MRI. I've had an epidural and a consult with a surgeon who said I'm not a candidate for surgery. (I guess it's not bad enough?) I'm 43 and the cause is just wear and tear, no injuries. The pain is in my lower back (constant and worse with activity) and down my right leg (worse when sitting for a long time). But, I can handle the pain, I just can't do anything else. After work (I have a desk job) I just go home and lie down on my bed. I have a job, husband, and two children, along with everything else that goes along with house keeping and raising a family. It's just too hard with the pain. Am I just a big baby, or does this sound bad enough to really need pain management? I'm taking Lyrica, but am concerned about the side effects. Also, Lortab 10 which does help, but the doc stopped prescribing it, said I was taking too much (4 times per day) and prescribed MS contin twice per day. I'm also taking an anti-depressant. Thanks for your input. Please, only serious responses. Sarcastic and inappropriate comments are a waste of time and I will report them.

pain that interferes with your life especialy when other treatments are not helping is a sign of needing pain management. you definitely sound like someone that could use that.

you sound alot like me. Get a referral to a pain management specialist. Do whatever you have to.
your are not a whimp or a big baby.

You say your pain is not "bad enough" . You are in constant pain and you can't be the kind of wife and mother you want to be, but you don't seem to feel that you deserve the best treatment available. We women tend to put others first so put your family first by taking care of their wife and mother. Go to the pain center and find out what is available for you.
