Would a puppy be a good idea for an older springer spaniel dog?

Hi,I did the following:

Would a puppy be a good idea for an older springer spaniel dog?My Springer Spaniel is around 11 or 12 and hes getting up there. He has all the signs of aging (white fur, gained weight, skin tags, arthritis, cloudy eyes etc...) and I was wondering if a puppy or a younger dog from the pound would be a good idea.
Do you think this would help him and bring out his "fatherly instinct" and make friends and love it or do you think he would be mad at us for "replacing him"?
What dogs are compatible to Springer Spaniels and what arent?
Thanks!

Your dog would probably be pissed at having this bouncy annoying youngster bothering his nap time.

Dogs do not have "fatherly" feelings.

Please let your old dog enjoy his last years in peace and not having to tolerate a puppy at this time. It is the last thing he needs.

Wait until he passes away to "replace" him.
