Kindly let me know the remedy for cervical spondollysis? The patient in question is my father who is 75 years old. He has been diagnoised with a degenerating disorder in respect to arthritis. He has done lots of medicine and physio-therapy but he gets severe pain at the back in the head as some nerves are being pressed.

If you have cervical spondylosis, symptoms may last for several months or become chronic. Most of the time if symptoms are mild, the doctor may recommend a variety of non-surgical treatments. Rest, medication and physical therapy may take away most of your symptoms, but do not treat the underlying cause. The doctor may want to see you again to check if symptoms have gotten better, worse or stayed the same.

If the problem is mild, treatment may be as simple as physiotherapy and the use of a cervical collar. If severe, treatments include laminectomy or decompression (surgical procedures). At your father's age, the surgery might be too risky if he has other conditions. Your father's doctor would be the only one to know if the surgery would be beneficial for your father or if he would be a good candidate for it. Why not talk to the doctor about it and see what he says? He might have even discussed it with your father and your father might have decided not to have it done.
